Thomas A. Murphy, MD, FACP, FACE, is the director of the Division of Endocrinology. Dr. Murphy received his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri in 1978 and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1981. He completed a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Case Western Reserve University in 1983 and remained on the faculty at University Hospitals of Cleveland for two years before accepting the position of Director of the Division of Endocrinology at MetroHealth Medical Center in 1985. He is board certified in internal medicine and in the sub-specialty of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Dr. Murphy is co-chairman of the committee that teaches Endocrinology and Metabolism to the first and second year medical students at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. In addition to organizing the committee, he also lectures to the medical students and leads small group discussions. The quality of his teaching was recognized in 2003, when he received one of the Kaiser-Permanente awards for excellence in teaching from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He has been named one of "America's Top Physicians" by the Center for the Study of Services in Washington D.C. and is listed on "Best Doctors Incorporated" as one of the best doctor's in America. He was voted one of the top doctors in Cleveland in polls published by both Cleveland magazine and Northern Ohio Live magazine.

Dr. Murphy handles patients with all types of endocrine disease with a special interest in thyroid disease and the hormonal management of trans-sexualism.
