Leona Cuttler, M.D. is the William T. Dahms Professor of Pediatrics, Vice Chair of Child Health Policy and Community Health, Department of Pediatrics and Director of The Center for Child Health and Policy at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, Case Western Reserve University, and Chief of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Rainbow.

Dr. Cuttler’s career in health policy and medicine includes research, clinical care, education, and service. She has developed programs that span health care from bench to bedside – including the establishment of a center to address chronic conditions of childhood, leading a multidisciplinary think tank on the health of disadvantaged children, and development of an interdisciplinary program to address childhood obesity.

Dr. Cuttler was one of seven health professionals nationally to be awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship in 2005. She served on the staff of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee for over one year (2006-2007). In this capacity, she worked on Medicare, health quality indicators, Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, obesity and other conditions.

Dr. Cuttler is an active researcher in the areas of obesity, growth disorders and their treatment, diabetes, chronic disease, ethics, and related health policy. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, Medicaid Technical Assistance and Policy Program, the American Diabetes Association, and several philanthropies. She is on leadership groups for the Ohio Dept of Health, the state Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps, the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Ohio Business Roundtable, and many more. She has been involved in the development of legislation, has testified in the Ohio House and Senate, and has provided Congressional briefings. In 2006, Dr. Cuttler was named Ohio Health Policy Researcher of the Year and in 2009 she received the Ohio Health Policy Award for Independent Scholarship.
