Death By Asthma
Can asthma kill you?
Yes. There are about 6000 deaths per year in the United States due to asthma. While asthma remains a relatively rare cause of death (compared, for example, to heart disease and cancer), asthma mortality has continued to increase significantly over the last several years. This has occurred despite advances in asthma treatment. Many experts believe that the most significant factor contributing to rising asthma morbidity and mortality is the failure of patients and doctors to recognize asthma early on, and treat it agressively with anti-inflammatory medications. You can find out more on this topic by visiting the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute`s website below.
