Lupus

Does diet effect Lupus?

12/03/1999

Question:

Does diet effect the causes of Lupus?

Answer:

Some dietary supplements such as alfalfa have been suggested to precipitate the development of lupus although this has not been confirmed. It has also been suggested that dietary preparations containing hormone like agents may also precipitate the development of lupus. In mice with lupus, supplementation of the diet with evening primrose oil and fish oils appeared to decrease the severity of the disease.
