Prostate Cancer

Type of Hospital Care for Prostrate Cancer Surgery

01/28/2000

Question:

After being diagnosed with prostrate cancer (in the left prostrate), would you recommend having surgery at a community hospital or at a university hospital? My father feels confident in his doctor, but his daughter does not feel comfortable with the community hospital where he would be treated.

Answer:

Many urologists are well trained in prostate surgery and many community hospitals have the capability of caring for patients undergoing these procedures. I believe the community hospital would be fine. University Hospitals often care for patients with associated complex medical problems and/or more complex diseases. I hope this information is helpful to you.
