Help for eye problems02/22/2000 |
Vision problems are a common worry to PWPs, but eye docs can`t find anything wrong--glasses don`t help. Aside from tracking problems, can you identify others linked to PD or to the meds we take? Where can one get help if ophthalmologists can`t help us?
Visual problems in PD are not due to refractory errors and thus glasses are not helpful. If there are difficulties due to limitations of upgaze or downgaze then prismatic lenses can be of some help. Visual contrast sensitivity is reduced, so reading in a bright light can be helpful. During staging procedures carried out at our center in patients who are candidates for surgery we often find that visual contrast perception improves after the medications kick in. Consulting a neuro-opthalmologist is helpful although these are hard to find.
