Prostate Cancer

Should I Continue PSA Tests if I Have Negative Biopsies?

03/03/2000

Question:

I am 75 years old. During the past 10 years I have had 10 PSA readings that have ranged from 8 to 14. I have had 4 biopsies which have all been negative. So should I continue these tests or wait and watch due to the likelihood of my age. If I have a high PSA reading again. Is it worthwhile to have another biopsy?

Answer:

If your PSA doesn`t change, and remains relatively stable, this should be satisfactory follow-up and a repeat biopsy will not be required. You should discuss this with your physician.
