HIV and AIDS
What Is The Risk Of Trasmission Between Homosexual Female Couples?
Is the risk of contracting AIDS as high for lesbian couples as it is for heterosexual or homosexual male couples?
Your question about the risk of contracting AIDS between lesbian couples versus heterosexual or homosexual couples is a good one. Experts have been trying to research this question but have not come up with definite answers. The information we have to date suggests that the risk is lower. There have not been very many studies in lesbian couples where one has HIV and one does not. I would still recommend the use of barrier protection when having oral-genital contact (like saran wrap). Since women can pass HIV infection to men, there is no reason to believe that a woman could not pass HIV infection to another woman.
