Newborn and Infant Care

Learning disabilities from birth problem

what is the condition called when a baby is born with no fluid around it? can it cause learning disabilities?

I think you are talking about oligohydramnios. Oligohydramnios is a condition that occurs when less that 500 ml of amniotic fluid is present. Oligohydramnios is diagnosised through ultrasound. The exact cause of oligohydramnios is unknown. It is often seen with pregnancies past due date, placental insufficiency , and in major renal conditions in the fetus. If oligohydramnios develops early in the pregnancy there is a risk of skin and skeletal abnormalities. Also because there is less amniotic fluid to breathe the fetal lung development may be reduced. The causes of learning disabilities are many and this is something that is best discussed with the babies health care provider who will have access to all medical records.
