Lupus

Immediate advise needed

10/23/2000

Question:

i`ve was diagnosed with SLE about two years ago. Although the doctors say that i have no organs of my body damaged, my knees and legs are swolen and i suffer a lot of pain. Could you please advise...

Answer:

It is difficult to judge the severity of illness based solely on the complaints. Many times, SLE may appear to remain `silent`, i.e., no obvious evidence of organ involvement, yet it may be very active in the body. It is important to see a rheumatologist or Doctor who has good experience with treating lupus patients. A detailed examination and some tests including routine urine and blood counts may help determine the activity of disease. While pain can be temporarily controlled with tylenol, motrin and other similar drugs, they may not affect the internal disease.
