Anxiety and Stress Disorders (Children)

Identiy Issues And Anxiety

12/05/2000

Question:

I am a 16 year old female with OCD,bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorder. I've lived in a fantasy world most of my life. I constantly think I am someone I am really not. Is this a medical condition and should I tell my psychiatrist about this. Am I just abnormal?

Answer:

I agree that since you are in a therapeutic situation with a psychiatrist you should review your feelings to determine whether this is another symptom related to your other problems, a side effect of your medications, or just the normal feelings of adolescent identity affirmation. I do not think this is an anxiety symptom.
