my son is nine years old soon to be ten and the dentist said he would eventuallly need braces. what age do they usually get them? how much are they?
This is a good question. When the dentist says eventually, it would be a good idea to have an orthodontic examination at this time to determine when the orthodontist feels it would be the best time to start therapy. There is a variety in the eruption of the teeth and the chronologic age between children. There are some problems which should be treated as soon as practical. That is, cross-bites of the molars or upper front teeth in reverse position to the lower teeth. Sometimes it is best to treat in two stages because that may insure the best result. It is not possible to give a cost figure because this varies with the severity of the problem but this should be openly discussed with the orthodontist.
