Prognosis for Advanced Prostate Cancer Without Treatment05/21/2001 |
What is the prognosis for a person who is diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer (has spread to bones) but refuses any type of treatment (hormonal or otherwise)?
Very poor. Treatment is imperative to not only relieve any symptoms the patient may have but also delay the inevitable progression of the disease. Typically, hormonal therapy is used and it is often very effective with minimal side effects. I suggest consultation with a urologist who should be able to explain the problem to the patient and manage it appropriately.
