Prostate Cancer

Is Inability to Move Fingers Related to Hormonal Therapy?

07/16/2001

Question:

I have been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that has spread to the bones. Recently I have developed the inability to move my fingers in my left hand from late night to morning hours. I contribute it to something with my circulation, since I tend to feel cold too during this period. Any thoughts on whether there is a linkage to my cancer and this symptom? I am under hormonal therapy.

Answer:

This may represent nerve compression in the cervical (neck) area. Though this symptom could be related to bone involvement with prostate cancer it more commonly is related to arthritic changes and responds to a variety of medications. I suggest you consult with your physician who should be able to evaluate the problem, assess its cause and recommend appropriate treatment. I hope this information is helpful to you.
