09/10/2001

Question:

My husband has a PSA of 6.8 and a biopsy has been advised. We are told that there are 2 types of biopsy - trans-rectal with sonar and trans-perineal. The latter making up to 16 tissue samples possible. Which would you recommend?

Answer:

In most instances transrectal biopsies are performed with ultrasound guidance. The number of biopsies vary with the urologist performing the procedure but generally vary from 6 to 10. Some however do more. I hope this information is helpful to you.
