Eucalyptus and smoking cessation

11/02/2001

Question:

My nephew tells me a friend quit smoking and to help when he started, he used eucalyptus. He would dab a small amount on the arm of a chair or couch where he was going to sit. Have you ever heard of this? What form would the eucalyptus take - oil, liquid?? Any other ways of using this or another herb to help with quitting??

Answer:

I can`t find any scientific evidence that eucalyptus is beneficial for smoking cessation. A variety of herbal products/supplements are sometimes recommended for smoking cessation, but none have been scientifically studied. Please check out the website noted for further information.
