Anxiety and Stress Disorders (Children)

DBT Programs

03/12/2002

Question:

Do you have any programs for a Borderline teenager who is cutting? Anything with Marsha Linehan`s DBT program??

Answer:

Borderline personality disorders, or for the teenager as the personality has not yet fully formed we term it `features` rather than disorder, is a severe and debilitating psychological syndrome with behaviors such as self mutilation. This is described by the sufferer as a means to reduce anxiety. Specialized programs and highly trained and experienced therapists are required to treat and rehabilitate borderline personality. Even when treated by a competent therapist, control and recovery can be problematic.
