Lump in breast of 9 month old

05/22/2002

Question:

My 9 month has a lump or swelling on her right breast. What is that, just hormones? Or worse?

Answer:

A lump or swelling in a child`s breast at this age is not considered a normal finding. Occasionally breast swelling is seen in the first day or two after birth and this is usually due to influence from maternal hormones. You need to consult your child`s health care provider.
