Osteoporosis

Carbonation and Bone Deterioration

02/17/2003

Question:

I am doing a Science Fair project and I am doing research on bone affects from carbonation. My science fair question is: "What is the effect of carbonation on bone deterioration?" I understand there was some research in August on a similar topic, and was wondering if you could enlighten me on that research. Thank you.

Answer:

Some experts think that small amounts of carbonated drinks are not a problem as long as the person ingests an adequate amount of calcium each day, but the literature is full of different opinions. Try doing a search on the topic on PubMed or Google. You will find a lot of information.
