Lupus

Antibiotic Side Effects

04/07/2003

Question:

Can Lupus or other neurological diseases cause side effects when taking anti-biotics, such as jittery/racy sensation all over, or crawling sensations in the skin? These are new side effects not experienced in previous anti-biotic use.

Answer:

Antibiotics can cause various side effects in people with or without lupus. Certain antibiotics can also cause a lupus-like disease. It is less likely that the symptoms described here are related to the antibiotic use, but this has to be evaluated by a physician.
