Low back pain and exercise

06/11/2003

Question:

I have a problem with low back pain (that a doctor diagnosed as a "bulging disc,") that tends to get worse whenever I exercise. I do some stretches that a physical therapist taught me to do after I exercise, but it doesn`t seem to help. Do you have any suggestions about how I can still be physically active, without making my back worse?

Answer:

Thanks for writing. You should see a physician about these issues, as it is very hard for me to diagnose or suggest specific exercises without seeing you.
