Are There Any Diets or Herbs That Prevent Bladder and Urinary Infections?

08/11/2003

Question:

I`d like to get some information about how to prevent bladder and urinary tract infections. Are there diets or herbs or other methods that I should use?

Answer:

Recurrent urinary track (bladder) infections have been shown to respond to daily cranberry (either juice or pills), along with plenty of water. It is important to empty the bladder frequently so bacteria don`t have a chance to multiply. If symptoms of a bladder infection occur, it is important to see your doctor to have a urine culture to assess the need for antibiotics. Cranberry juice does not treat a urinary track infection, but can be helpful in preventing it`s recurrence. Other tips are to make sure you wipe from front to back, and empty your bladder immediately after intercourse.
