Orthodontist or regular dentist?01/29/2004 |
When should my child see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child be seen at age seven. The reason for this is that some children may have cross bites of the erupting teeth that can be easily corrected and allow for more normal development of the dentition.. There may be some skeletal problems identified which need further study as the child develops. The orthodontist will not start treatment if the dentition does not require it so as not to wear out the child with treatment that could be done later.
