Are children(ages 6-12) who watch violent movies more likely to commit crimes as adults?
The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a joint statement on the impact of entertainment violence on children during a congressional public health summit July 26, 2000. The paper on the effects of viewing violence on children is found in the link provided below. In it the authors contend that Entertainment violence has been associated with aggressive behavior in some children. It is by no means the most important factor contributing to youth aggressive behavior. Family breakdown, peer influences, the availability of weapons and a host of other factors contribute to these problems. Studies have shown that children exposed to violent programming at a young age have a greater tendency for violent and aggressive behavior later in life than children who are not exposed. If you are a concerned parent or adult you should discuss this further with either your pediatrician or your primary care physician.
