Skipped a beat

04/06/2004

Question:

I am a 29 year old female in good health. I am a little high strung normally, but not over the top. In the past year, I have periodic feelings that my heart is jumping in my chest. Sometimes it actually feels as though it skipped a beat or two. At the time I generally feel anxious - hard to tell if the anxiety makes the heart skip or vice versa. Anyway, I was hoping you could tell me if I need to look into this. It happens several times in one day, but then may go weeks withough happening again. I don`t get dizzy or anything else along with it.

Thank you!

Answer:

I recommend you contact your personal physician regarding your situation. Many things can cause an increase in heart rate, but your physician should be contacted first.
