What is hemophilia caused by?
Hemophilia is caused by a change in one of the genes that carries information the body needs to make one of the blood clotting proteins. Sometimes there is a new mutation (change) in a gene. Sometimes an abnormal gene is inherited from a parent. For more information on hemophiia, please see the introduction to this topic.
