Can A Rash Be a Symptom Of HIV?

04/25/2005

Question:

May a skin rash (uncolored papules on the middle of arms and on midlle of legs - very itching), with no other symptoms at all, be an acute retroviral phase symptom?

Answer:

Acute retroviral syndrome sometimes includes a rash as part of the symptoms.  The usual rash is reddish in color but can be faint.  Skin color has an effect on how easy it is to see the rash.

It sounds like you're asking for a specific diagnosis, which is more than I can provide online. Only a detailed history and physical exam by a healthcare professional can provide enough information to make a specific diagnosis. Please discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider.
