Vicidon mental effects11/23/2004 |
After using the drug vicidon for a long period of time (over many years) what is the mental side effects this can cause? This drug is taken for severe pain due to arthritis/spinal mengitis.
Most of the "mental side effects" associated with long term use and dependence on drugs such as Vicodin are feelings of guilt, shame, and depression. These feelings are often accompanied by obsessive thoughts related to obtaining, using and recovering from use of the drug. These feelings begin to resolve with treatment.
There are a variety of forms of treatment that can take place in many different settings. Treatment could involve detoxification and rehabilitation in an inpatient or outpatient treatment center. For the individual in recovery, there are Twelve step fellowship programs such as Narcotics Anonymous available for support in the recovery process.
