Osteoporosis New Drugs12/27/2004 |
How come when I research on the internet treatments for osteoporosis - I find nothing on Zometa dnd Forteo? Are they approved? Successful? Risks involved. How do they compare to other drugs on the market.
Zometa is not yet being marketed for osteoporosis. It is being used for other bone diseases. Forteo is approved for treatment of osteoporosis, but safety for use longer than 2 years has not been determined. Forteo is generally reserved for severe osteoporosis. It is given daily as a subcutaneous injection similar to insulin. Approximate cost is $500 per month, compared to the other approved drugs at approximately $65.
