HIV and AIDS

Should I Get Retested?

03/18/2005

Question:

I had unprotected oral sex with a sex worker in November of 2003 and tested negative for HIV in June 2004 (seven months later). Even though I don`t really have any of the documented symptoms, I`m still concerned that it might be a false negative. I`m a worrier. What do you think? Thanks.

Answer:

It is unlikely to that you would sero-convert after 6 months after exposure; however, you may want to get re-tested at 1 year after the incident to reassure yourself.
