How Effective Are Two Condoms?

03/21/2005

Question:

My ex-boyfriend said he only slept with one person and that he used two condoms to prevent himself from catching anything that the girl may have had. Now I know you're not supposed to wear two condoms because it can break. He told me this after we broke up, but he told me that the condoms didn`t break. Is there still a way that anything could have got through the condoms even though he said the condoms didn`t break?

Answer:

Condoms are good, but not perfect, at preventing sexually transmitted diseases.  You mentioned he used condoms with the previous girlfriend, but didn't mention whether he used them with you.  If you have suspicions, then a trip to your doctor for sexually transmitted diseases screening would be worthwhile.
