Skin Cancer & Laser Resurfacing
Is laser resurfacing for age wrinkles safe for people who have had skin cancer or does it increase the chances of a reoccurance?
Several studies over the last few years have looked for an answer for this question. Currently the data is conflicting. One study showed that laser resurfacing was able to remove precancerous cells in some patients for up to 6 months after treatment. Another followed patients for up to a year and found no signs of skin cancer. However, a couple of other studies have found an increase in skin cancers in patients 1 year after having facial CO2 laser skin resurfacing. Bottom line is that at this point we don't have a definitive answer.
