HIV and AIDS

Can I Get HIV From Possible Blood In The Bathroom?

07/27/2005

Question:

Dear Doctor, I know my question probably sounds too trivial to you, but I really hope you can spend just several seconds to comfort me. Yesterday when I was in a cinema, a guy stepped on my left foot, which made my foot a little painful and dirty. So I went to the women`s restroom in the cinema and put my left foot into one washroom sink to check if there was any wound. But now I began to worry, for I didn`t check to see if the restroom sink I put my foot into was clean enough. Besides, I had a small sore on my left heel at that time. What if there was some stain or blood in the sink that my leg and heel might have touched? Is there any risk for me to be infected by HIV in this way? Please give me your kind help even though my question is a little stupid. Thanks.

Answer:

There was no risk of contracting HIV infection in the manner you describe.
