Face and Jaw Surgery

Jaw poping

11/15/2005

Question:

My jaw pops when i side it from one side to another. I read many websites and it says that it`s the TMJ. Some website says that it need surgery, a nightguard or just try to chew on soft stuff for a while. X_x Is surgery nessessary? :( I`m kinda scared if i have to. My jaw doesn`t hurt when i chew, but i can feel this small click when i slide it.

Answer:

It sounds like you're asking for a specific diagnosis, which is more than I can provide online. Only a detailed history and physical exam by a healthcare professional can provide enough information to make a specific diagnosis. Please discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider. However, most asymptomatic clicks do not require surgery. I would encourage you to have this evaluated to make sure that no permanent damage will result from this.
