What are some way to stop your milk from coming in? i have a 1 month old, and suddenly he has decided he does not like my milk and i have put him on formula. but now my brest are engored and won`t stop leaking. what are some ways to stop them?
It is hard to stop breast feeding cold turkey. Breast milk is produced in response to demand. Generally, if you are able to decrease one feeding at a time your breasts will adjust to the decreased demand without too many difficulties. In your case the process of your breast "drying up" may take a bit longer and certainly be more uncomfortable at the beginning. Here are several things you can do:
- Put ice packs on your breasts when they get uncomfortable.
- Bind your breasts tightly with a towel, have someone help you pin it tightly around your chest.
- Take 400 to 600 mg of ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) 3 to 4 times/per day.
- When you get too uncomfortable express the milk or pump just enough milk to make your self comfortable.
In 4 to 7 days you should be much more comfortable. Hope all goes well.
