About lyme disease01/25/2006 |
I have experienced no symptoms, but suddenly seemed to have the characteristic bite with circle of red on the arm, and again on my side. My Doctor has treated me with 2 weeks of doxycycline. How soon after a bite does the bulls eye show up? I`m trying to figure out about how long ago I got bitten. If I feel fine now, could symptoms start later? Should I be taking 3 weeks of antibiotics if I feel fine? Is there anything else I can do to protect my self in the future from this illness?
The rash appears within 3-30 days of the tick bite in 70-80% pf patients. The duration of antibiotics is 2-4 weeks. One should wear long sleeves and long pants while trekking or walking in these areas, to avoid tick bites. For more information please go to the Lyme Disease website at www.CDC.gov.
