Transmission of HIV Four Days After Vaginal Sex

10/23/2005

Question:

I had protected vaginal sex on Friday evening, but the sex was rough and the condom broke and I ejaculated in her. Now on Monday I have a sore throat. Is this an early sign of acute HIV infection or is it too soon to have symptoms? I was recently sick about 2 weeks ago, so I think this is probably a reoccurence of my cold. Thanks for answering.

Answer:

Symptoms of Acute HIV infection start 2-3 weeks after the exposure. Therefore it seems that you may have a recurrence of your cold.
