Urinary Tract Cancers

Ionizing Radiation

10/10/2005

Question:

Could prostate cancer in fact be a form of urinary tract cancer? I was involved in the occupation of Nagasaki, Japan shortly after the dropping of the atomic bomb. I believe that my prostate cancer may be induced by ionizing radiation, a radiogenic disease. Can you help me with this question? Thank you

Answer:

I am not aware that ionizing radiation has resulted in the development of prostate cancer.  The disease is very common in men as they age and oftentimes a causative factor cannot be identified.
