Cystocele/rectocele repair12/09/2005 |
I am 55 / post menopausal. I have a 3+ cystocele and a rectocele. My doctor has recommended vaginal surgery to repair those and in the process to do a complete hysterectomy. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a complete hysterectomy at this point? Could all of the above been done laprascopically instead? Thank you
A hysterectomy is not necessary when performing a cystocele repair. Though it is occasionally needed based on the degree of the cystocele oftentimes it is not. I suggest you discuss this with your surgeon.
Though there are laparoscopic approaches, the vaginal approach at this time seems to be the most reliable and durable over time.
