Swelling and pain in both ankles01/18/2006 |
I am 22yrs old, 5`3, 135lbs, female. I have been having pain, swelling, red and sometimes purple "cuff" areas on both of my ankles for about 5yrs or so. I was sent by my physician to a vascular surgeon. I was examined and had an ultra-sound done but they came up with nothing and they didn`t recommend anything else. What is my next step?
Swelling in the legs at your age can occur from venous and/or lymphatic (the circulatory system which connects the lymph glands through out the body) problems. I would be sure that the venous study looked at the valves in your deep, superficial and perforating venous systems before dismissing them as the cause. Best of luck!
