Bipolar Disorder (Children and Adolescents)

Verifying Bipolar Disorder

02/02/2006

Question:

Diagnosing Bipolar disease appears to be subjective. What tools or tests are there for me to use that will offer some kind of certainty that I truly do have the disorder?

Answer:

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question specifically because my specialty is childhood bipolar disorder, and we do not have an expert in adult bipolar disorder at this time. However, you might find David J. Miklowitz’s book "The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide: What You and Your Family Need to Know" helpful. It has a great deal of information about BP and its treatments. Best wishes.
