Bacteria in bottled water

02/18/2006

Question:

What type of bacteria is found in bottled water? Is any of the bacteria life threatening? (Would appreciate all information on all topics of bacteria in bottled water.)

Answer:

Unfortunately, no agency monitors or tests bottled water. Different brands may have different bacterial contents. The CDC does have a fact sheet (see link) about which filters or brands of bottled water can remove the parasite Cryptosporidiosis. Some of these methods and filters may also remove bacteria. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dpd/parasites/cryptosporidiosis/factsheet_crypto_prevent_water Amy Beth Kressel, MD, FIDSA the following question was assigned to you: Subject: Bacteria in bottled water What type of bacteria is found in bottled water?
