Parkinson's Disease

Atrophy

12/10/1998

Question:

My mom was just diagnosed with having a disease called Atrophy. Webster's is the only place I can find this disease and I need to know a lot more than a brief description. I need to make plans for her care in the future and I need detailed information. Can you help???

Answer:

Atrophy is not the name of a disease. It just refers to wasting or loss of a tissue or an organ. Thus, you can have muscular atrophy, brain atrophy and so on. You need to ask your mother's doctor to explain more fully what is going on, and to outline a plan for diagnosis and treatment.
