Osteoporosis

Nerve Function and Osteoporosis

04/04/2006

Question:

I have been diagnosed with a back disc L4/L5 midline annular tear. It is affecting left L4 nerve root sheath causing pain and weakness. A bone density test has discovered loss of bone density in the region which has caused surgical plans to be put on hold. I have read in places about nerve dysfunction and its possible relation to osteoporosis. Could my problem be leading to loss of bone density in the region?

Thank you so much or this site and for taking time to answer this.

Answer:

It is doubtful that the two conditions you describe are related.
