Clonazepam's Addicitve Potential03/15/2006 |
I am on Lexapro 10 mg and clonazepam 0.5 mg since 1 year for anxiety, panic disorder and stress and chemical imbalance. I heard from my family doctor that once the symptoms improve, clonazepam 0.5 need to be deleted since it has addictive potential. In fact, I feel lack alertness, slightly confused. Is clonazepam to be gradually tapered off? Please guide me.
Yes, clonazepam has addicting potential. It is a benzodiazepine medication, and that class includes Valium and Xanax, among others. When you have been on it for a long time, it is a good idea to taper off the medication over a few weeks, under the supervision of your physician.
Good luck.
