If you have high uric acid levels you should reduce or eliminate foods high in purine. Here's a list of foods that contain higher levels of purine and some that contain moderate levels. If you are trying to reduce your uric acid levels I would start by eliminating both groups. Then you might gradually be able to add back the foods on the moderate purine list. Avoiding purines completely is impossible, but you can limit them. People with higher uric acid levels learn by trial and error what their personal limit is and which foods might actually cause adverse symptoms. Hopefully your uric acid levels aren't high enough to cause pain. Foods considered high in purine content include: Alcoholic beverages (all types). Some fish, seafood and shellfish, including anchovies, sardines, herring, mussels, codfish, scallops, trout and haddock. Some meats, such as bacon, turkey, veal, venison and organ meats like liver. Foods considered moderate in purine content include: Meats such as beef, chicken, duck, pork and ham. Crab, lobster, oysters and shrimp. Vegetables and beans such as asparagus, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, mushrooms and spinach. A few things not on this list that would be good to eat are: Meats and substitutes - salmon, tuna, halibut, tilapia, eggs and egg whites, nuts and nut butters (almonds, almond butter) vegetables - tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, mixed greens for a salad, carrots, celery, olives, corn fruits and juices - all dairy products - all, though low fat is better for other health reasons grains - all - rice, pasta, breads, biscuits, muffins, ready-to-eat cereals, oatmeal, barley etc.
