Anxiety and Pain

04/12/2006

Question:

Can anxiety cause nerve pain in different spots all over your body ex. hands, knees, jaws, ect.?

Answer:

It is not unusual for people with anxiety to have physical symptoms.  commonly reported symptoms include fatigue,  headaches, muscle tension, muscle aches, difficulty swallowing, trembling, twitching, irritability, sweating, and hot flashes. People with anxiety may feel lightheaded or out of breath. They also may feel nauseated or have to go to the bathroom frequently.  It is possible that some people with anxiety may describe some of these pains as "nerve pains."
