Hyperthyroidism Treatment Costs04/25/2006 |
How much would it cost for treatment of hyperthyroidism?
There are three treatments:
(1) Surgery - probably would cost several thousand dollars.
(2) Radioactive Iodine - probably would cost $500-$750.
(3) Anti-thyroid drugs such as PTU or methimazole. Here the cost would depend on what your final dose was, but typically a month of therapy would cost roughly $12 to $36 (though it could be more if your dose requirement were unusually high). Remember, however, that you usually only have to undergo surgery or radioactive iodine once. If you chose pills, then you would be taking those pills indefinitely - perhaps for the rest of your life.
