Hysterectomy and Osteoporosis
I am considering having a hysterectomy.I have questions, though. My questions are:
Will I get osteoporosis afterhaving a hysterectomy? If the answer to the above question is yes, then why? Please explain in great detail why I will get osteoporosis after having a hysterectomy.
A hysterectomy alone does not usually lead to osteoporosis. On the other hand, if you are premenopausal, removal of both ovaries causes menopause, and most women do have some bone density loss at the time of menopause whether it is natural or surgical. If your bones are strong to start with, some loss at menopause is not of great concern. Be sure to get adequate calcium and vitamin D intake along with exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
