Breast Feeding

Ending breastfeeding

My daughter is 6 days old and I have decided to switch her to formula and end breastfeeding. My milk has come in, how do I successfully stop breastfeeding?

Weaning you daughter at such an young age should be simple for her.  First you need to ask yourself if you really want to wean your daughter, or are you doing it because your tired or feeling pressured.

If you really want to wean her, begin by cutting out a feeding every couple of days, and giving her artifical breastmilk in a bottle to replace the feeding.  Since your milk is not well established, this process will go fairly quickly.

You will feel some pressure and discomfort in your breast while weaning. Do NOT empty them in anyway, as this will send a message to your breat that you want to continue nursing.
